February 13 'Billu' Feeling of Fresh Air-Review By DONComing out of hall, and feeling the breeze of fresh air, is what I experienced today. Priyadarshan, a man known for his good comic taste and healthy entertaining cinema brought again a tale of friendship and emotions for you. I had no big expectations, neither no expectations, from the film after promos. So was that worth with such expectations? Answer is YES, it was. It was ‘An ordinary man in extra ordinary circumstances’.
Coming back to the film, it’s a story of Billu[Irfan Khan] a barber, who is living with a brave heart, trying making both ends meet. He has a barber shop, in a severe miserable condition. He has a wife Bindya[Lara Dutta] and two children, in a bad condition yet happy. But things went out of his hand, when a super star Sahir Khan[Shahrukh Khan], who happened to be his old friend, comes to his village ‘Budbuda’ for a film shoot. The news broke into the village, and every one started giving ‘Bhau’ to Billu. So what happened next and how things turned, watch the film!
The film starts off very well with a pure picture of a battered saloon and a beautiful village, Sahir Khan world which was totally opposite to this scenario brought a contrast in the subject. Some viewers may think that songs are coming in a very short time but that’s how the world of Sahir Khan can be showed. The direction was top notch, with a excellent cinematography and a fine screen play. First half, quite fast, actually the whole film passed out very easily, not giving a chance to the viewer to blink eyelash once. Climax was predictable in a way, but was very well used in the script.
Music of the film was youthful, with a decent background score, if not great. All songs were well crafted and choreographed and left a mark on listening ears. My best pick would be Khudaya Khair & Ae Aa O.
Now, the best part among the best parts, performances, Irfan Khan, the man need no introduction excels the role in a quite different way. Lara Dutta, I never thought she could fit such role with such outer look. Shahrukh Khan in his extended cameo again proved, why he is there at the top! His decision of cameos will now hurt me. Rest of the supporting cast including Asrani, Rajpal Yadav and Om Puri were first rate.
On the Whole, ‘Billu’ is a fresh experience with a pure touch of innocence in every character and every frame. If you go with a positive mind, without a preconceived notion, you will come out smiling and tapping you friend, ‘Maza Agaya Yar’.
I would be little lenient in rating the film because I first time saw, my dream star Shahrukh Khan on big screen. My rating for this venture is *** ¾ , If you believe in ‘Friendship’ and ‘Emotions’ you must not miss this one, even if you don’t watch it for a good cinema without any guesses!
Some of the best scenes from the film, I would like to mention.
1-Billu’s Shop description in the beginning. 2- Sahir Khan entry. 3- Inspector Act. 4- Climax Speech. 5-Billu entry in his house after getting arrested.
November 22 Ghajini-Music Review By DONMOVIE: GHAJINI MUSIC DIRECTOR: A.R.RAHMAN LYRICIST: PARSOON JOSHI
When Legend A.R.Rahman name is there for a album, expectations always on the higher side and that too with something new expected every time. Innovation is the essence of this Legend’s music. Now coming back to Ghajini music, its again a innovative album in terms of music. Lots of things have been tried, some worked some not. Here is my review on this album.
Guzarish: Singer(s): Javed Ali, Sonu Nigam[Humming]
The song tune catches you at once and that’s the best thing of this song. Lyrics are average at places but get well at other part of the song. Its far by the best song of the album in terms of both music and lyrics. Javed Ali again did a great job with Sonu Nigam Humming[good luck I would say]. The best part of the song is its tune which makes you hum the song. Kudos to A.R Rahman to give such a song in such genre.
Aye Bachchu: Singer(s): Suzane
It could be a situational song but it still doesn’t go well for me if I look back at some situation track on this line. Rahman Sir tried something new from his books and yes succeeded but not in full sense. Lyrics let down the whole song I would say. I don’t know what Parsoon Joshi did after Taare Zameen Par[Excellent One].
Kaise Mujhe: Singer(s): Benny Dayal, Shreya Ghoshal
I have always been a lover of slow melodious songs. And for such songs you need deep words to carry the emotion forward. So did Lyricist did that. I would say 50/50. Music has been good, could have been great . The demerit of this song is its too slow[more than required]. Singing of Shreya Ghoshal is like a treat with Benny Dayal doing a good job too. Over all second best song of the album. But needs too much time to grow[if it does]. Its too slow to catch in short.
Behka: Singer(s): Kartikh
This song is no exception in terms of lyrics and tune mismatch. I wonder what Parsoon Joshi was doing while writing these lyrics. He mixed Taare Zameen Par sense with totally opposite album. Visuals already out and honestly speaking, it’s the visual who is giving life to the song with ravishing Asin and cool steps of Aamir Khan. Music as I said is a new in some sense.
Lattoo: Singer(s): Shreya Ghoshal
Shreya Ghoshal is the best part of the song. Her singing has full control and feel of the song. It is again a good try to be innovative by Legend A. R Rahman but I think he doesn’t touch the right chord. It could be situational and may grow with visuals but chances are not so bright even for that. I think nothing left to be said on lyrics here.
Kaise Mujhe(Instrumental):
This song could be called the short review of the album. I mean the music of the album is catchy and has attraction but lyrics go nowhere. This instrumental is a pure treat for music lovers. One can download the album for this instrumental only.
Verdict:
The album has its merits and demerits as well. Expectations were not too hight after the first song came on air but A. R Rahman the name itself is a big expectation[at least for me]. The album doesn’t disappoint me in the sense that it has some innovation in it from Rahman side but lyrics were the major let down in most of the songs. Guzarish and Kaise Mujhe are the best tracks from the album, with Instrumental at the end as a treat. Other songs may and may not work with visuals. At sale counter, it will sell on the name A. R Rahman/Aamir Khan and hype around the film. If the same kinds of lyrics carry with such music for any other film, it could have been un noticed album at sales counter. For me it’s a fine album just because of last instrumental that touches me.
I’ll go with 6.25 out of 10 for this album, an extra 0.25 just because of instrumental. RAB NE BANA DI JODI MUSIC REVIEW
Haule Haule: (SUKHWINDER SINGH) Tujh Mai Rab Dikhta Hai(Male Version): (ROOP KUMAR RATHOD) A song that come after a time which much soul in it. It touches you to the bottom of your heart with its sweet charming lyrics and classic music touch. Again Jaideep Sahni kept things simple. No difficult use of words be it urdu or hindi because the guy who is singing is from Punjab and will obviously use simple words. Roop Kumar Rathod, you expect a soulful singing when this name comes in front.I have always loved his songs and one more entry in the list is this track. Tujh Mai Rab Dikhta Hai(Female Version): (Shreya Ghoshal) One minute odd song which brings you the sheer touching voice of Shreya Ghoshal and she left impression on whole album with just 1 minute odd song. Nothing to say on lyrics and music because its on the same line as male version. Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte: (Sonu Nigam) Dance Pe Chance: (Sunidhi Chouhan and Labh Januja) These type of songs never click me or you can say click at once, same thing happened here, it clicked but late after several listenings. It could be called one of the weakest track but will be surely applauded among dance lovers and disco lovers. The remix style is very good and the music though very contrast to other tracks is good enough to get a good place in people listings. On the whole, there is no dull moment in the album. No a single let down as per the story of the film goes. Simple lyrics with heart touching soulful music. I never expected such good album from Salim-Suleiman duo. I remember i said the same to my friends that they may be not the good choice but i think i was wrong. They give you the classical touch, punjabi touch and music of yesterday in one album in a different yet applaudeable way. You may love it late but will surely love it. Even if i go harsh according to the movie story and genre i would give it |
